Laranja Azul is an independent production company mainly dedicated to creative documentary.
Created in January 2000 by the directors Catarina Alves Costa and Catarina Mourão, with Laranja Azul they finally found the solution to produce, direct and edit their films in a free and flexible way.
Before creating Laranja Azul, Catarina Alves Costa had already directed Back to the Homeland (1992), Our lady Aparecida (1994) and Swagatam (1998). Catarina Mourão had directed Out of water (1997), The Lady of Chandor (1998) and Love me Love me not, the diary of a film made to order (2003).
Laranja Azul has produced the following films: Next Stop (2001), Restless (2004), and more recently On Edge (2006), My village doesn’t live here anymore (2006), and Breathing is what matters (in production) all directed by Catarina Mourão, and More Soul (2001), The Architect and the Old City (2003) and Brigadas do SAAL (in research) all directed by Catarina Alves Costa.
Laranja Azul also produces films by other directors such as Reversed Landscapes (2002) and Slightly smaller than Indiana (2006) by Daniel Blaufuks, In Between Walls (2002) by João Ribeiro and José Filipe Costa, I love you for what you are (2005) by Silvia Firmino, The Prodigious writer (2005) by Joana Pontes and Alberto Carneiro (in production) by Olga Ramos.
Finally Laranja Azul is regularly asked to produce commissioned videos for different cultural institutions such as museums and exhibitions: Teatro em Festa (2000), Masks (2001), Linen is a dream and The Mystery of Silk (2003), Moinhos de Gavião (2004), O Sítio de Castelo Velho (2005), O Parque (2007) and Memorial à Agua e Mosteiro de Santa Clara-a-Velha (in production).
