BIO

Born in Porto, she studied Social Anthropology, received a master’s degree in Visual Anthropology from Manchester University’s Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology, and a PhD from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa with a thesis entitled Camponeses do Cinema: Representações da Cultura Popular no Cinema Português 1960-1970. Between 1994 and 2000, she worked at the National Ethnology Museum. In 2000, together with Catarina Mourão, she founded the Laranja Azul production company. She is an assistant professor at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and oversees the master’s degree in Anthropology – Visual Cultures. She also manages NAVA (Núcleo de Antropologia Visual e da Arte), part of the CRIA (Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia) and teaches in the postgraduate courses at the São Paulo University and at the Barcelona University’s Faculty of Social Sciences.
